    Acting Captain Peter McWatters

    Acting Captain Peter McWatters is an 18-year veteran of the Grand Rapids Police Department.  He has served in several roles during his tenure including Patrol, the Special Response Team, and the Training Bureau while taking on additional responsibilities as a Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, and Defensive Tactics Instructor.  In 1997, he was assigned as an Acting Sergeant and was promoted to Sergeant in 1998.  During his tenure as Sergeant, he served as a team leader in the Special Response Team, patrol supervisor for East Service Area, and as the Training Bureau Sergeant.  A/Captain McWatters was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2004 and served as the administrative Lieutenant in the East and West Service Areas as well as the Watch Commander for third shift.   From July 2007 through August 2010, A/Captain McWatters was the commander of the Internal Affairs Unit.  On July 1, 2011, he was promoted to Acting Captain in charge of the North Service Area.     

     

    A/Captain McWatters has received numerous Letters of Commendation and Letters of Recognition, five Meritorious Unit Citations, one Achievement Medal, and one Distinguished Service Medal. 

     

    In addition to his professional experience, A/Captain McWatters holds a Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Ferris State University.

    Lieutenant William Nowicki

    Lt. Nowicki is the Service Area Lieutenant for both the North and West Service Areas.

    Lieutenant Wililam Nowicki began his career with the Grand Rapids Police Department in 1992.  He has served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, and a Detective.  In 1999, he was promoted to Sergeant where he served as a Patrol Sergeant in the downtown and West Service Areas.  In 2004, he was promoted to Lieutenant and has served as a Patrol Watch Commander and Service Area Lieutenant.

    In addition, Lt. Nowicki holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice (1992) and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration (2001) from Ferris State University.  He is also a 2007 graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.
