The Grand Rapids Fire Department's Residential Safety Program has reached a new milestone. On Friday, February 28, Rescue 7 out of LaGrave Fire Station installed the 10,000th smoke alarm of the program! Rescue 7's crew consisted of Fire Lieutenant Don VanDyke, A/EO Mike Myers, and Firefighters Mike Waldron and Jeremy Shepard. Overall, the Fire Department has reached nearly 1,700 homes in the city of Grand Rapids. Homes that participate in the program receive an in-home fire safety assessment and free smoke alarms that are installed by the Fire Department.
