Before it gets to your home, the Grand Rapids Water System filters and treats your water. We take our water quality very seriously. This is to insure that your water meets or exceeds requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ). The Grand Rapids Water System lab received a near perfect rating during 2008. The MDEQ auditor stated, “Of the hundreds I have completed, this on-site inspection comes as close as any to having no observed deficiencies, which is commendable based on the knowledge, experience and dedication it takes to get to that level of operation.”

    How Water Works

AWWA has provided us with an interactive virtual tour of how water is collected, treated, and used in a typical water supply system. You can take the tour at this URL: http://www.grand-rapids.mi.us/departments/water/CD/water-system-tap-back-1.html

    GLSLC recognizes GR

The city of Grand Rapids Water System was recently recognized by the Great Lake St. Lawrence Cities Initiative (GLSLCI) for it's significant progress on water conservation.

    Take back the Tap!

The City of Grand Rapids is joining a national campaign to reduce the use of bottled water in the community. Tap water is healthy and possibly healthier than bottled water; it takes millions of barrels of oil to produce and dispose of plastic water bottles; and tap water is cheaper. "Tap water is a better choice than the bottled brands, for our health, our environment and our wallets," said Mayor George Heartwell.

Your Water Account Info is Now Available via Phone

Water and Sewer Customer Service is pleased to announce that customers can access billing information on their accounts via Interactive Voice Response (IVR), beginning Thursday, February 10, 2011. This system gives customers the option of pressing a number for automated information on their account balance, current due date, past-due balance, and scheduled shutoff date.

We anticipate this option will better serve our customers by providing quick information without waiting in a queue. Customers can retrieve this information 24 hours a day by calling the Customer Service phone number at 616-456-3200. Of course, during normal working hours, customers still have access to customer service representatives.

Customers will soon be able to pay their account on-line with their credit card or bank account. The Water System is working with the City Treasurers Office to make this option available mid-March 2011. Customers currently have the option to have payments automatically deducted from their bank account through “EZ-Pay.”
