Change or clean when dirty * Have a professional tune-up of your heating system every other year. * Replace your older, 60% efficient furnace with one of at least 90% efficiency. * Consider switching from a fuel oil or LP gas furnace to a natural gas furnace.

| | | Residents, Waste, Urban Development, Economic Development | 12/12/2011 10:13 AM | I want to update you on how your City government is preparing for the future. We are transforming how the City provides outcomes for our community to ensure that we can continue to sustainably provide desired outcomes. We are closely evaluating every City service and changing how we provide services to ensure that the service can continue to be provided at the same or better quality within our limited resources indefinitely. We will transform City operations to run like a business, to become more efficient, to lower our costs, to lower your taxes, to lessen our negative impact on the environment, to address neighborhood concerns, to improve our customer service, transparency and accountability, and to ensure that we provide these services within our revenues. I would like to provide a few recent examples of changes that will transform City services. |

Remember, the plastic must be sealed tightly to the frame to help reduce infiltration. * Install tight-fitting, insulating window shades on windows that feel drafty after weatherizing. * Close your curtains and shades at night; open them during the day. *Keep windows on the south side of your house clean to let in the winter sun. *Install exterior or interior storm windows; storm windows can reduce heat loss through the windows by 25% to 50%. Storm windows should have weatherstripping at all movable joints; be made of strong, durable materials; and have interlocking or overlapping joints. Low-e storm windows save even more energy. * Repair and weatherize your current storm windows, if necessary.
