Do you currently park in the Area 4 & 5 Lots?
    We have options for you!

In April 2016, Loeks Theatres and 616 Development publicly announced a mixed-use development project anchored by a multi-screen movie theatre in Downtown Grand Rapids. The proposed development impacts the publicly owned surface parking lots known as Area 4 and 5 located south of the Van Andel Arena. Property ownership of these two facilities is shared between Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) and the City. City staff and DGRI have collaborated with the development team to finalize the construction schedule and hope to have it finalized in the next two to three months.

    Project Timing

The construction of the development project is tentatively scheduled for Fall 2017. An exact closure date has not been set, but we will provide updated information as it becomes available. The new parking ramp will open around the end of 2018.

    Parking Options

There are currently 595 parking spaces in the Area 4 and 5 surface parking lots. The development project includes construction of a new 900+ space parking structure representing a net increase of more than 300 parking spaces.

All Area 4 and 5 parkers as of March 1, 2016 will be given the right of first refusal to purchase monthly parking in the new facility when it opens.

In preparations for the lots closing, please contact Jennifer Kasper ( to set-up a meeting to discuss a transition plan for you or your business account. The City wants to provide as many options to fit individual and business needs.
