    Utility Permits

    A Utility Permit is required from the City of Grand Rapids for any non-City owned public or private utility companies with facilities within the City's public right-of-way. Permit fees were determined based on a study of the City's utility permit review and approval process for work within the City of Grand Rapids. The City Commission has approved the most recent fee schedule, effective January 1, 2006. The costs are summarized below.

                             Class A-B-C                         $170

                             Class D                                $95

                             Completion Inspection         $50 (each)

                             Additional Inspection           $50 (each)

    Utility permit applications are electronically submitted. Follow the steps below to apply:
    1. Register for a free Inspection Services account through the Inspection Services Portal.
    2. Go to the Utility Permit Application where you will complete the online application and begin the permitting process.

    Temporary Occupancy Permits (TOP)

    Temporary Occupancy permit applications are electronically submitted. Follow the steps below to apply:
    1. Register for a free Inspection Services account through the Inspection Services Portal.
    2. Go to the Temporary Occupancy Application where you will complete the online application and begin the permitting process.

    Encroachment Permits
    Encroachment permit applications are electronically submitted. Follow the steps below to apply:
    1. Register for a free Inspection Services account through the Inspection Services Portal.
    2. Go to the Encroachment Permit Application where you will complete the online application and begin the permitting process.
