This project resurfaced Kalamazoo and upgraded sidewalks and ramps to be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Work also included installing rain gardens and infiltration basins to retain and soak stormwater into the ground to filter pollutants and reduce runoff entering natural bodies of water. Bulb-outs were created at several intersections to create room for rain gardens, better define parking spaces, and lessen the crossing distance for people walking. Additionally, minor modifications were made to some side streets to replace angled intersections with T-intersections at Kalamazoo. Lastly, the project added a bike lane to a portion of the road and sharrow symbols. This work was completed in June 2016.
