Over 800 properties within ten areas of the City are designated Renaissance Zones, a powerful market-based program designed to spur new jobs, investment, and redevelopment in designated urban areas.

Because Michigan Business Tax, 6 mill state education tax, Michigan Personal and Real Property Taxes, and City Income Taxes are waived, "RenZones" are virtually tax-free for businesses or residences.
Grand Rapids' Renaissance Zone has become the most successful in Michigan, and we continue to lead the state with the number of Renaissance Zone projects. Since the program started in January 1997, the total investment within the ten areas is $251,000,000.
