    At first glance, Emerge West Michigan is a regional web portal – a one-stop shop for entrepreneurs to access resources that will help them grow and succeed in West Michigan.  The portal is a tool to search for the specific type of help you need to launch your business or grow your company.  The City of Grand Rapids is proud to be a founding partner of Emerge West Michigan.

    Groundbreaking at  555 & 601 Michigan Street NE
    On July 6, 2015, construction began at 555 & 601 Michigan Street NE on a mixed-use project near Midtowne Village.  The new building on the northwest corner will contain 2,300 square feet of retail space on the first floor, and six market-rate apartments on the second and third floors.  The new building on the northeast corner will contain 3,500 square feet of retail space on the first floor, and 18 market-rate apartments on the upper three floors.  The total investment in the development will be approximately $5.1 million, excluding acquisition.

    Grand Rapids family business expands, adds jobs and invests $3.2 Million
    The Hansen-Balk Steel Treating Company, a family-owned business that specializes in heat-treating steel for the automotive, medical and aerospace industries is expanding its Grand Rapids facility. Hansen-Balk is investing approximately $930,000 in real property improvements and approximately $2.3 Million in equipment to expand its vacuum bays that will allow the company to expand its specialized manufacturing operations to meet the needs of its customers in the automotive, aerospace and medical industries.
