    The CRC has sponsored the following events and activities in the past:

    Affirmative Action

    • Sponsored community forums.
    • Tracked and monitored anti-affirmative action legislation.
    • Testified before the State legislature.
    • Conducted a public hearing.
    Community Relations
    • Launched the People of Color Collaborative to help facilitate mutual respect, understanding and communication between communities of color in Grand Rapids.
    • Sponsored a Building Cultural Competence Workshop for the People of Color Collaborative.
    • Engaged in efforts to have a sculpture of the late Rosa Parks placed at Rosa Parks Circle.
    • Participated in local civil rights events such as the NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner, Grand Rapids Urban League annual Martin Luther King Breakfast, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Dinner and the Cesar E. Chavez March.
    • Brought in an expert on street renaming to engage the community in a dialogue on the options for renaming Franklin or Division streets after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
    Fair Housing
    • Assisted in judging student submissions in the Fair Housing Month Poster, Essay and Video Contests.
    • Participated in videotaped public service announcements to raise public awareness about fair housing.
    • Co-sponsored the annual Fair Housing Month Luncheon.
