Grand Rapids Fire Department warns against telemarketing scams
12/06/17: GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan – Fire Chief John Lehman is issuing a warning to citizens as telephone scammers are calling and claiming to be representatives of the Grand Rapids Fire Department and/or Grand Rapids Firefighters Union.
“Neither the Fire Department nor Union is currently engaged in seeking monetary donations from the public,” said Chief Lehman. “We have asked and are not aware of any area fire departments engaged in seeking funds via telemarketing operations, please be wary of these calls.”
Chief Lehman pointed out however, that the Grand Rapids Fire Department is partnering with the United States Marine Corps Reserve, serving as drop off points for the “Toys for Tots” campaign. Toys for Tots is an ongoing and long standing tradition that lasts through the holiday season. The department encourages citizens who wish to spread the holiday spirit to consider giving an unwrapped toy or gift to those children who might otherwise go without this year. Residents can simply drop off their new purchase to one of the 11 GRFD fire stations, and the department will do the rest.
